On July 23 we were honoured to welcome Alberta’s Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, Rebecca Schulz, and Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) CEO Justin Riemer to our Centre for Performance Applications for a special funding announcement.

Through its Advanced Materials Challenge, ERA is investing up to $49 million to support 18 projects across the province that will help shape Alberta's circular economy and support the development of lower emissions products.

We're proud to share that NOVA was selected to receive $4.67 million in funding through this program. This investment will help accelerate our work to integrate recycled polyethylene into high-performance applications, pushing the boundaries of circular innovation and supporting the development of sustainable technologies.

Across the value chain, brands and customers are seeking to increase the amounts of recycled content in their products. This funding will strengthen our ability to support those objectives through cutting edge research and development, and furthers our ambitions to lead circularity.

“NOVA Chemicals has a proud legacy of advancing technologies that reshape plastics for a better future," said Rocky Vermani, SVP, Innovation, Sustainability & Strategy at NOVA Chemicals. "This generous support strengthens our ongoing commitment to reshaping plastics and demonstrates how Alberta ingenuity can deliver sustainable solutions with global impact.”

This investment comes at a meaningful time in NOVA’s history as we celebrate 50 years of innovation in petrochemicals. Since 1975 we have been proud to create value from Alberta's natural resources and drive innovations that reshape how plastics are designed, made, and recycled.

We are deeply grateful to the Government of Alberta for its continued confidence in our work, and for its steadfast commitment to innovation and economic growth across the province.

With this support, we are another step closer to realizing a truly circular plastics economy.
